Season Four Dilemma

As I attempted to write this evening it occurred to me that I can't get past Season Three. In my perfect world Carter does not exist in Atlantis and Carson didn't die.  There you have it. There is no way I could write Carter unless it was some evil demented story involving her death. And Keller is so boring that I wouldn't even know where to begin with her. A character has to have character in order to write him/her. It's almost to the point where I find it increasingly difficult to even read a story that involves Carter, unless she is the mean nasty bitch my mind has conjured up.

I thought I might be overreacting to the whole Carter thing but I am increasingly incensed by her 'familiarity' with the characters. In my mind she has stepped into the role too easily and everyone is far too accepting. And if she calls Sheppard "John" one more time I might just puke. Would it be too much to ask that at least one of the characters find her less than wonderful? *gags*

*hug*

Haven't watched any of it, but I utterly sympathize.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'll tell you that Keller is no replacement for Carson. Carson will forever be my doctor of choice in my fics. The wonderful thing about fanfic is I can do that.

Oh, God. I feel exactly the same way. I've tried to read a few stories set in Season 4 and having Carter there really throws me right out.

And Keller, so bland.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I need Carter warnings on my fic nowadays. You know, just tell me up front if it's going be gushing over her or I can read knowing the writer hates her as much as I do. LOL

Warnings: bdsm, rimming, mpreg, Carter

Add 'character death' and I might contemplate clicking on *g*

doh! Forgot to log in.

Hey, A 'Carter's Death' warning would get me to read it. LOL

There are people out there shipping Rodney and Sam... "McCarter"

Shudders

Aside from Rodney telling her he's involved (with JOHN, damnit) can you really see the man A) getting involved with his boss, and B) getting involved with a someone who has no respect for his intelligence?

*covers ears* No, not listening.

McCarter? Next it'll be Shepter. Or Cartard?

I'm just going to my happy place now where Carter never ever came to Atlantis.

[identity profile] garneteve.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen a bit of Seas. 4, and I totally agree with you. Yes, Carter is the pleasant person who has taken over Weir's role, but that's about as far as it gets...(don't get me wrong, she was great in sg1, but she does not belong in atlantis)!!!
I'll stick with old school sga thankyou very much...where carson and weir are still very much a part of atlantis...where all is normal.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh thank god, I'm not alone. I actually used to like her in SG1, at least until the later seasons, but I can't accept her presence in Atlantis. It's wrong and I don't like how she is considered all powerful and all knowing at the expense of everyone else.
ext_12384: (Default)

[identity profile] smuffster.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto. early SG-1 I really liked her, but she became this golden girl who could do no wrong and as a result the character became very arrogant.

When I hear the producers talking about her it makes me sick. One of the questions asked of Joe last week was whether or not there would be any conflict between Sheppard and Carter, and apparently Joe was pushing for it, but the producers were all, no we can't do that because Carter is so nice and she would never do anything that would cause conflict with another person *pukes*

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
What they see in her as a character and why they are so enamored with her is way beyond me. I can totally get behind Sheppard having issues with Carter. For one, he should be telling her flat out that she has no right to call him John, because hey, they aren't friends, damn it!

[identity profile] strangevisitor7.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
I am still trying to figure out why they felt the need to replace Weir if the are going to write Carter as if she was Weir. I want her gone too. After all of Rodney's stalking of her how can he possibly report to her. Ugh!

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. It makes no sense.

I'm so with you re Carter.

There is no way I could write Carter unless it was some evil demented story involving her death.

Please, do! Make my day... :-) (maybe this makes me bad person, but... *shrugs*).

I pretty much resigned myself to AUs after season 3.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm on the Kill Carter bandwagon.

[identity profile] darkmoon711.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
I can't even watch this season... I didn't even watch Sunday... Or anything after Sunday. I pretend the show ended in the middle of Season 3. Like right after Tao of Rodney. I would have cut off sooner, but I like that episode. And I was reading the spoilers for the episodes to come in Season 4... ::cries self to sleep::

May the show get canceled quickly are my only words. I would explain, but episode Trio is too scary and makes one want to cry so much it's sad. Plus I don't want to spoil someone who actually is trying to watch this crap.

You aren't alone. I miss my real show before that tried to make it into SG1:Lite.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
My worst fear is that I somehow make it through season four and they keep her around for season five. I can't even get excited about Friday's any more. It was the only damn show I watch on TV and they've ruined it for me. Bastards!

[identity profile] darkmoon711.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!! I completely agree with you. I wish I still had my icon. It said 'Scifi Channel: Where Good Scifi Goes To Die'. Because it seems no matter how good the series is, if it's on that channel it's going to start sucking hardcore eventually. We need to start a support group.

"Hi, I'm Darkmoon, and hate Season 4 and Carter. And I tried to Acsend to get away from that... Wait, no that's the Alterns to get away from the Wraith..."

"Hi Darkmoon!"

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. Maybe Carter will ascend and we could be free of her. TBTP could do that dramatic killing of a character they love so much and we could all sigh with relief.

[identity profile] darkmoon711.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm anti-Jack/Sam. But if he'd show up and sweep her off her feet and off my show, I would be giddy! I warned when we found out that Carson was going to die to pay Amanda Tapping's salary, that it was going to be a Carter love fest... And I hoped and prayed that it wouldn't happen. But sadly I'm a realist. ::shakes head sadly::

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be doin' the happy dance. ;)

[identity profile] darkmoon711.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
::cries and hold you:: Season 5 has been officially been announced.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Now we have to see if they kept Carter. I know they said it was for one season but I'm somehow doubting that.

[identity profile] darkmoon711.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
You know that they are going to keep her. Cause 'She Saved Atlantis'. Which is B.S. Some people are still watching cause of the McShep love. Some not us.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Makes me want to cry.

[identity profile] psycho-warbaby.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm totally on your wavelength! Well sort of. I don't want to kill Carter, but it just doesn't feel right with her as leader and it's just too much too soon. I love it when Carter guest stars on Atlantis, but it's just wrong her replacing Weir!

And Carson... noone can replace him, not even the fabulous Jewel Staite. There's just no chemistry between them anymore.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No chemistry at all is right.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one, although I miss my old show so much. I just posted a fic and stated up front that my canon stoppped at Ark and this is a futurefic from there. Sadly, my hatred of Carter is enough to taint the rest of the show and I haven't been able to watch.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
TBTP have some fasination with Carter. I don't get it.

[identity profile] sp23.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm liking Keller, but Sam is just too redundant for me. Plus, I've very tired of her "Oh, we (SG-1) already did this. Here's the solution." Gah! At least (so far) we don't have Rodney slobbering all over her. I hope they keep it that way so I can continue to have my Big Gay Show.

However, I find I'm backing away a little from SGA - mostly because of the way Sci Fi is dicking around with the renewal. I have no intention of being hurt and depressed the way I was when Angel was cancelled.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And they wonder why the ratings are down. I wonder if the number coming over from SG1 to watch Carter make up for the number of loyal SGA fans they've lost with this move.

[identity profile] dark-cygnet.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
ZOMG! ::clings:: Dude, delurking long enough to say A-fucking-men! Sock puppets have more emotion and spark than Keller does and Carter makes me want to vomit. *sigh* I need some McBeck right about now...

*smooches you*

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. Keller is like the blandest character ever. Hell, even Kate was better and that's saying something.

Snort....sock puppets.

And Keller is so boring that I wouldn't even know where to begin with her.
Word. Could she be any more flat? It's especially hard to take after seeing Carson who could so *so* *much* with so little.

And I wasn't that upset over Weir leaving (well, I was upset but not really for Weir, more for all the changes and fear of what Carter coming over would be like), but I actually found myself missing her after watching Doppleganger. I'm totally with you on the familiarity thing too. It got me how at the end of Doppleganger they showed Carter and Keller hanging out with the gang. Not that I think the gang would be mean enough to exclude her, but it just seemed so out of place, they hadn't earned the right to be there.

And I would think that John would feel a little more intimidated by her, since she's now the ranking military officer, and he's not going to be able to take control anymore if the shit hits the fan and there's a military situation. Elizabeth put up with it, but he can't expect to get away with it with Carter.
Rodney too, was only upset for about 2 seconds. You think we'd see just a little bit of bitterness after he thought he'd be getting the head position. And things have always been awkward between himself and Carter, you'd think he'd at least be nervous to have her there, and probably threatened, since he's used to being the smartest, he's admitted to her that he knows she's smarter (not that I think that statement still stands...).
I wish the writers would get over their giant crush on her, and write her realistically.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I think the gang would be mean enough to exclude her, but it just seemed so out of place, they hadn't earned the right to be there.<.i>
Exactly. It's like they seem to think they can just slip right in. TPTB are cramming them down our throats. In my mind they have not earned the right to be part of the 'team'. Carter has not earned the right to call Sheppard John. And I totally abhor how she treats Rodney.

[identity profile] misty4me.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well you know I agree with you. I wasn't a big SG1 fan, didn't watch the show so Atlantis is really all I've known of the Stargate 'verse. And even without all of that backstory, well, Carter has just totally changed the dynamic, the basic feel of the show. I see Rodney and John marginalized, see her walking in and being accepted without earning her chops, see her being dismissive of their experience.

Then there is Keller. Yeah, she is boring. That isn't anything against Jewel Stait. After all, unless it's Carter, the writers have pretty much shown they can't write women, and they pretty much only write Carter well situationally, when she's being a soldier or scientist, not herself. She certainly doesn't have any leadership presence.

So Keller, yeah flat, boring. Someone described her as not owning any of the scenes she's been in so far. I have to agree. The writers may not have given Carson a lot to work with, but PM really did well with it. I don't see Stait having the same luck. My only hope for Beckett is that apparently the writers are going to 'ship Keller and Ronon, so I'm thinking they'll kill her or something at the end of the season because having Ronon in a relationship with her would really be stupid and alienate fans.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
About as bad as shipping Carson with Cadman. Who thought that was a good idea? Ranks right up there with the idea that Rodney and Katie are a good match. WTF?

[identity profile] misty4me.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, do you think all the writers are divorced? At least once? Of course that assumes they've ever actually been in a relationship.

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
They are married to meek, mild women that bend to their every whim. LOL

[identity profile] rasah.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
do you know what? other than a fic i wrote ages ago (The Competition) when i first heard about carter coming to atlantis and wanted to write a little pie-in-the-sky-i-won't-be-so-bad-fic i don't think i've written her at all.. and it isn't even intentional; i seem to have just forgotten about her... hmmm, maybe i'm wrong.. i just can't remember writing about her; and it wasn't until i saw this post that it occurred to me it was probably cause i just can't tink of anything to write!

anyhoo, new ep tonight (Reunion), hopefully sh'e not TOO bad in it?

[identity profile] chaps1870.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck with that. ;)

[identity profile] rasah.livejournal.com 2007-10-24 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. OK. NOT liking season 4 so far...

oh well, there's 3 previous seasons to love i guess :)
